The Human Factors Safety Laboratory at the University of Minnesota is seeking a limited number of volunteers to participate in a driving research study. In this study, you will be asked to drive normally for 6 months, while using a potential driver coaching app, mindfulness meditation app while not driving, both apps, or will be randomly assigned to a control group (no coaching app). These study activities will be completed remotely; it is not necessary to visit a UMN campus. Participation in this study will constitute reimbursement in the form of $400 via mailed checks.
A subset of participants may be asked to participate in a driving study on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. These participants must have no history of motion sickness. Simulation study participation will be compensated an additional $100. We hope to gain insight into improving driving performance by evaluating the effects of using a driving coaching app, mindfulness meditation app, or both. This portion of the study is fully optional, and not required to participate normally.
To be eligible, you must be 60-89 years old, have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, drive a minimum of 4,000 miles each year, have normal or correct vision (20/40 or better), own an Android or iPhone smartphone, and have no cognitive, hearing, or physical constraints that may limit your driving performance. Participants must pass a screening process, including over the phone cognitive assessment.
